Starting 2019

To all our existing families welcome back to a new year and to our new families welcome to Marsden High School. We look forward to a successful and enjoyable 2019.

Following is some key information to assist with a smooth transition for the start of 2019.

STARTING DATES

Wednesday 30 January:

* Year 7, Year 10 Peer Support Leaders, Year 11 and Year 12 students

* NEW Year 8, 9, 10, and 11 students (already enrolled and interviewed) for enrolment orientation. New students in Years 8, 9 & 10 may go home after enrolment orientation with parent/carer approval. A letter must be provided for authorisation.

Thursday 31 January:

* Year 8, Year 9, remaining Year 10 students.

UNIFORM

Please ensure students are in full school uniform at all times.

The uniform shop will be open tomorrow (Wednesday 30 January) between 8am and 12:30pm for any last minute purchases.

As advised last year, boys shorts are now available for purchase (only MHS branded shorts can be worn). Girls shorts should be available beginning March 2019, we will advise as soon as they are available.

SPORT IN 2019

After consultation with the school community and research into best practice it was decided last year that Marsden High School would implement a new sports program structure in 2019.

In 2019, Years 8, 9 and 10 will do sport for 120 minutes every Tuesday afternoon. There will be a choice of competitive (grade) and non-competitive (social) sports.

Grade Sport (TSP) will be optional for Years 11 and 12.

Year 7 will follow an integrated, school-based sport program, where sport is included as part of their timetable, 4 periods per fortnight.

Years 8, 9 & 10 students are to wear sports uniform to school on Tuesdays (and Year 11 & 12 if participating in Grade/TSP sport). Otherwise, sports uniform is only to be worn for PE and Year 7 sport lessons. Students are to change into sport uniform for PE/Year 7 sport and change back into regular uniform afterwards.

BELL TIMETABLES

As you will be aware from our last 2018 newsletter, the bell times for Marsden High school will be changing in 2019. This new timetable incorporates the new Tuesday afternoon sport structure.

The key points are:

* School starts at 9am each day and finishes at 3.10pm Mondays, Thursday and Fridays.

* On Tuesdays:

– Year7 have normal timetabled classes and finish at 3pm.
– Years 8 10 participate in sport during periods 4 & 5 (sport buses depart at 12.30pm) and finish at 3pm.

– Year 12 finish at 12:30pm (after period 3) on Tuesdays, if not participating in sport**.

– Year 11 finish at 2:00pm (after period 4) on Tuesdays, if not participating in sport**.

* On Wednesdays:
– Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 finish at 2:10pm (after period4)

– Years 11 and 12 finish at 3.10pm.

** There will be some Year 11 & 12 classes scheduled for P4 & P5 on Tuesdays, as well as P0/P6 throughout the week, where required to ensure course breadth and teacher consistency.
