Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our school will participate in Best Start Year 7, an online literacy and numeracy assessment available to secondary schools at the start of Term 1, 2020. There are three tests in total and they will all be completed online on student laptops.
- The writing test is scheduled for Monday 17 February
- The reading test is scheduled for Wednesday 19 February
- The numeracy test is scheduled for Thursday 20 February.
Best Start Year 7, undertaken within the first five weeks of the school year, assesses key literacy and numeracy skills of Year 7 students. All information gathered during the testing is for Marsden High School only and will be used to establish the level of support required to improve students’ capacity in literacy and numeracy.
Please inform the school if your child has special needs requiring support to complete an online assessment.
Students will need to have:
- a computer, laptop or iPad
- headphones or earbuds
- a pen or pencil and blank paper for the numeracy assessment
- a book to read or work to go on with for students who complete the assessment before others.
Students may not use:
- dictionaries
- calculators
- web browsers, email, mobile phones or other resources for research or clarification.
